Morning After Laughter

The ladies can rest-easy in Canada should a morning-after pill be desired:

The Canadian National Association of Pharmacy Regulatory Authorities ruled last week that emergency contraception will be available over-the-counter in Canada. <Feminist Daily News>

I saw the newspaper article and almost cried.
Had the pill been available over the counter earlier a life-changing trauma need never have happened.
14 years ago as an 18-year-old, I was raped by an acquaintance on the friday evening before a long weekend. The teenage sex clinic was closed and by the time I could go I was so emotionally dead I could not face trying to arrange taking time off work to go and so ended up pretending nothing had happened and pregnant and gave birth to a daughter whom I placed for adoption and have mourned every day since.
But for a simple pill...
For me the newspaper article was a real awakening to how much we have to continue to fight for women's rights...

Thanks so much for your comment. I've had friends tell me that when requesting the behind-the-counter pill they've been grilled, criticised, and judged by the pharmacist sneering at them with 'slut' behind all his words. But it's news like this that makes me proud to be Canadian again and hopeful that we can find control over own own bodies by law.
